We expect to celebrate it in that special way that we did every year of the contest.
If you arreveid here is becaus you know the International Contest of Valencian Paella of Sueca, but probably you don’t know how it started nor since when it is celebrated. Its origins date back in 1961 due to the growth of turism and gastronomic contests.
Durind that period, Sueca celebrated the “Troballa de la Mare de Déu” 600th anniversary and, using the occasion, Sueca’s Major at that moment, Francisco Segarra Fabiá wanted to create a celebration dedicated to the paella. That’s how the “rice celebration” was born and, as it couldn’t have been any other way, a national paella contest got sarted. The celebration started to become more and more important and in 5 years it was qualified as a point of touristic interest. More people were interested each year, and in 1974 there were 1.600 diners.
1987 is a speciall year to mention, because the Comunidad Valenciana Cook Chefs Club, the Valencia cooks and Pastry Cooks Association and the Spanish Cooks and Pastry Cooks Association worked with us all organising the event and they continue doing it nowadays, leaded by Jesús Melero (chef of the RI-RA restaurant, in Sueca)
We find another important turning point in 1990, when the participation is extended to europe, Us and Japan, introducing the contest to an international field. Once the participation abroad was consolidated, Sueca’s valencian paella recipe is certified and the Celebration is declated of National tourist interest.
And that’s how, with some improvements such as the image makeover by the advertising agency socarrat.com in 2012, we arrive until today to celebrate the next edition of the Contest, and we expecto to celebrate it in that speciall way that we did every year of the contest.
