The International Paella Contest of Sueca has once again conquered the palates of the Spanish Parliament. The event has returned to Madrid this Wednesday to promote, in the Chamber of Deputies, the most famous dish of local gastronomy, but also the most popular and universal of the Valencians and even on a national and global scale.
About 150 paellas have been cooked on Wednesday and have been offered in the menu of both dining rooms in the Spanish Parliament. This means, therefore, that the rations offered have been doubled since the first “suecan expedition” to Madrid. “Sueca’s already here” was heard among the corridors, where it was happily rumored that he smelled already the “socarrat”. Sueca’s Competition and its people are already familiar thanks to this initiative that grows exponentially year after year, surpassing all expectations of the organizers.
This is the fourth year that a delegation from Sueca travels to Madrid to invite parliamentarians and other congressional staff to meet the dean gastronomic competition and also the town of Sueca, thus honoring the paella and the competition. An initiative that takes origin thanks to the national deputy of Sueca, Joan Baldoví. However, they have not been four consecutive times. The last year, and due to the long negotiations for the constitution of a new government, has been the only one that suecan commission has not attended the meeting.
The chefs of the restaurant of the parliamentary dining room have been advised, as in the last few occasions, by the gastronomic coordinator of the contest Jesus Melero, dressed in the chef jacket has collaborated in the preparation of the paellas according to the original recipe of the Contest Of Sueca.
Eurest chefs team of the Spanish Parliament won the prize for the second best paella in the world in last Sueca’s competition. To this award is also added an accessit awarded by the jury in the 55th edition. All trophies are exposed a prominent place of the dining room, which looked decorated for the occasion with allusions to the contest and the Valencian gastronomy. In addition, the title of second prize stars this year the menu letter of the restaurant’s daily menu which is headed with a reproduction of the diploma certifying the second best paella in the world of 2016.
The councilor of the contest, Vicent Baldoví, traveled to Madrid to participate in the promotion of this gastronomic event. Baldoví attended with other councilors of the municipal government and representatives of some of the sponsors of the contest that collaborated in the task of promoting the Contest. “Paella does not understand about ideologies. Parliamentarians of all parties have tasted our flagship dish and have approached us later to congratulate ourselves on the initiative and the delicious paellas they have tried. The vast majority of diners have not been able to resist and have opted for the paella when choosing their menu. How good to see how our dish is also valued outside the home!”, said Baldoví. The councilman also wanted to make clear his gratitude to the staff of the Parliament and to all those who have participated in the day.
The delegates of the City of Sueca have delivered, to all those who chose the paella in their menu, a series of gifts consisting in a small pack of rice from La Fallera, a wooden spoon courtesy of Garcima and an informative leaflet of the Contest with the original recipe of the Valencian paella.
