The fifth semifinal of the International Paella Valenciana Competition in Japan will be held at Aichi-ken Nishioshi Hosoikecho Okita, 105 on May 20, 2018, on the centenary olive fields in the beautiful Aichi prefecture, the director of the semifinal will be Ulises Menezo Ganau, Ambassador of the Valencian Paella International Competition in Asia.
This year we will have the participation of a contestant from Korea, this initiative is aimed to bring both countries and prepare the Korean competition to be held next year in Seoul.
The Contest will offer a master class of Valencian paella. All the ingredients to make the paella will be provided: rice, courtesy of the international sponsor Arroz Tartana, meats, spices and firewood. Also the basic tools for its preparation, in a paella kit consisting of paella, tripod and a palette.
All the participants in the semifinal will receive a diploma accrediting their participation, and gold, silver and bronze medals for the first three winners. In addition, the first prize will win a direct place for the Grand Final of the International Paella Valenciana 2018 Competition to be held in Sueca, Valencia.
After holding the semifinal in the United States, these are the results:

This year, the semi-final of the Sueca’s International Paella Contest is sponsored by the Feria de Sevilla in its 28th anniversary by Centro Español of Washington, Casa de Valencia in Washington and the company chosen to spread this Contest in the USA, PAELLAFEST/.
Both Presidents, Fernando Jimenez, and Jose Alberto Sanchis, are Valencian and direct experts and witnesses of the great impact that Paella has increasingly in the gastronomic culture of American families and how important it is to spread this tradition throughout the United States of America.
As usual, in the international semifinals, the Contest will offer two master classes of Valencian paella, taught by Master Paella Chef Jesús Melero, international organizer and member of the Jury, in the dates prior to the event. All the ingredients required to cook the paella will be provided: rice (courtesy of the international sponsor Rice Tartana), meat, spices, etc. Participants will also receive a paella kit consisting of a paella pan, a paellero with legs and a skimmer.
The participants in the semifinal will receive a diploma accrediting their participation, and the first three winners, gold, silver and bronze medals. In addition, the first prize will win a direct place for the Grand Final of the 2019 Paella Valenciana International Contest to be held in Sueca, Valencia (Spain). In this edition it is also worth highlighting the diversity and quality of the Jury.
