Asador Altamira from Alaquàs was proclaimed on Sunday, September 10 as the main winner of the 57th edition of the Paella Valenciana de Sueca International Competition. This restaurant has participated in the popular gastronomic event for more than twenty years, winning different prizes in its history, including a second and third prize, as well as a ‘Best paella in the Valencian Community’ award. The winners have received the prize (parchment and 2,500 euros, sponsored by the company Jet Extramar) of the mayor of Sueca, Raquel Tamarit.
The silver medal was awarded to the Alqueria del Pou restaurant in Valencia (sponsored by the company Sada and valued at 1,500 euros). The bronze went to La Lluna in Valencia, Costa Rica. The prize, sponsored by Sueca Express, was valued at 1,000 euros.
Japanese restaurant Anocado, winners of this year’s international semi-finals in Japan, has won the Best Paella Award from outside Spain, sponsored by Estrella Galicia and given by the mayor of the Japanese city of Kikuchi, Minoru Egashira. As for the best paella cooked at the regional level, the Picanterra restaurant in the neighboring town of Cullera, which has accumulated two second prizes, has been the winner in this section sponsored by Bodegas Bocopa. In this case, they have awarded the prize Eva Mittermuller, representing Bodegas Bocopa, and the president of the Valencian courts. And the local award went to Restaurant Rodasoques.
The 5 accésits, sponsored by Makro and delivered by the vice president of the Diputación de Valencia Maria Josep Amigó were: Garrofera, de Serra; I Love Paella Catering, from Hernani: Simply Spanish Tapas, from Melbourne (Australia); Gringo Paella, Preston (Australia) and Social Paella Catering, Los Angeles, who won gold in the semi-final this year in the United States.
